Honeycomb type core contributes nothing to the stiffness of a structural metal panels structure other than to try to make the two faces function as a unit. The stiffness, EI , of a given structure is therefore based completely upon the physical properties and dimensions with the two faces. Honeycomb cores are used inside the fabrication of lightweight structures. The core substance is ordinarily ‘sandwiched’ between skins and plywood, aluminum, FRP composite substance, steel, granite, solid surface materials, paper etc.
Honeycomb cores are formed by selectively binding layers of scored material and then increasing the stack to produce a regular cellular structure. Alternative routes for their manufacture consist of corrugation followed by bonding along with the extrusion of thermoplastics. Honeycomb honeycomb aluminum panels are applied extensively for flooring in both military and commercial aircraft. Generally, commercial aircraft flooring is about 1cm thick and is created of glass or carbon fibre reinforced epoxy skins with a Nomex honeycomb core.
Thus, since no deviation in pressure is produced between the inside and the outside with the sandwich panel, the front and rear surface layers are prevented from being damaged or removed from the honeycomb core. As a result, the sandwich panel with high strength may be obtained. Thus the panels are widely applied in a lot of industrial and commercial applications with the day-to-day life for example light trailer panels. Therefore, every panel having some unique features suitable for that particular environment. The panel itself is reversable and symmetrical so don’t worry about installing it backward.
